Description:	The historical breeding range of the swallow-tailed kite (Elanoides forficatus) in the United States extended from the Carolinas and Tennessee south through Florida, and Wisconsin and Minnesota south through louisiana, and Nebraska to central and southeastern Texas (Cely, 1979; Johnsgard,. 1990). By 1900, the range of the swallow-tailed kite was reduced to the far southeastern states from South Carolina to central Texas, and by 1940 the species was reduced to a few isolated breeding populations extending from southeastern South Carolina and Georgia, through Florida and the extreme southern portions of Alabama and Mississippi to south-central Louisiana.
